2026 Cedar Trails Eager Reader Program

Eager Reader is a voluntary reading program sponsored by the Cedar Trails PTSA. The 4-week program is designed to encourage all students to read for their enjoyment outside of school by offering fun incentives along the way. This year we are also adding the option to include iReady reading minutes into your student’s minute total. As students reach certain goals, they will be rewarded with great prizes including stickers, bookmarks, books, and more! See the attached prize level sheet for details. Eager Reader will run from Monday, March 2, 2026 to Sunday, March 29, 2026.

You will find instructions on how to log reading and iReady reading minutes online in this packet. Please help your child read through the instructions and log their minutes by clicking on the Eager Reader link on the PTSA website (www.cedartrailsptsa.org). Prizes will be delivered weekly. Minutes must be logged and approved by a parent by 10 PM on Sundays to count for that week!

Students can expect to reach a new prize level by reading the minutes listed on the log sheet. Keep in mind these goals are aimed at a broad group. Children will achieve the levels at different times. Remember to count minutes your student reads on his/her own and/or with a grown-up as well as iReady reading minutes.

To encourage students to continue reading after earning their level 4 incentive we will be holding a raffle. The raffle grand prize for grades K/1/2 is a Yoto Mini and for grades 3/4/5 the grand prize is a kindle! Students will earn one virtual raffle ticket for completing level 1, one for completing level 4, and then one for every 100 minutes read after reaching level 4.  The more you read, the better your odds! New for 2025: Cedar Trails students can earn a school-wide reward if we collectively read more than 161,000 minutes. If we meet our school-wide goal, we will celebrate with popsicles at recess at a later date!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do we have to participate?

No – Eager Reader is a voluntary program.

What if we forget to log minutes by 10 PM on Sunday?

No problem, just keep track of minutes until the next week and your classroom volunteer will account for the previously missed week.

What if I forget to approve my child’s minutes by 10 PM on Sunday? Your child’s minutes will be counted the following week.

What is the attached paper reading log meant for?

The reading log included in this packet is NOT to be returned to school. It is meant to keep track of minutes at home if you can’t enter them online right away! Please do not send it back to school.

How will my child get his/her prizes this year?

The prizes will be distributed at the end of every week in your student’s classroom. Book prizes will be given out outside the library on a specific day. We will be in touch with the specifics at a later date.

Entering Your Eager Reader Minutes Online

We will be entering all our reading minutes online. Please make sure your PTSA account is active and you have assigned teachers to your students on your PTSA profile. You will not be able to enter your child’s minutes until they are associated with a teacher in your PTSA profile. If you have any questions or do not have access to a computer and the internet at home, please contact Emily Garner at cedartrailseagerreader@gmail.com.

Student Instructions:

  1. Students are encouraged to enter their own minutes! Ask your grown up for permission to use a home computer, laptop, or tablet (iPad, Surface, etc.) to enter your Eager Reader minutes. Also ask them to watch as you do it the first time, so that they can help you as needed.
  2. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari). Go to the PTSA website at cedartrailsptsa.org and click on the image of the stack of books. Then click on the link for Student Entry.
  3. When you are prompted for the student password, type in Pack and press Next.
  4. Click on the circle next to your name.
  5. Now you will see your reading log. Enter the minutes you read each day, and press “Save”.
  6. The minutes you entered will show up as “Pending”. This means we are waiting for parent approval. Your parents will get an email asking them to approve your minutes about 30 minutes after they are recorded. Remind them to open the email and approve your minutes, otherwise, they will not count!
  7. You can visit your online reading log as you wish during the week to enter additional minutes. All of your minutes for the week must be entered and approved by Sunday at 10 PM each week. If you miss this deadline, your minutes will be counted the following week.

Caregiver Instructions:

To Approve Minutes That Your Student Entered:

We encourage students to record their own minutes if possible. But you must approve their minutes for them to count. When your student enters their minutes, you will get an email asking for your approval.

  1. The email you receive will contain a link for you to click on. This link will take you to the PTSA website to approve your child’s minutes.
  2. When you arrive at the PTSA website, you will need to sign in using your email address and PTSA password.

If you have forgotten your password, click the “Forgot your password?” link.

  1. You will see all your students listed. Click on one of them to go to their reading log.
  2. Check the “Approve” boxes next to the minutes that you wish to approve, and press Save.
  3. Weekly reading minutes must be approved by Sunday at 10 PM each week to count! If you miss this deadline, your child’s minutes will be counted the following week.

To Enter Minutes For Your Child:

If your child is too young to use a computer, you may enter his/her minutes for them.

  1. Go to the PTSA website at cedartrailsptsa.org and click on the image of the stack of books on the left side of the page, then click on the “Parent Entry" link.
  2. You will need to log in to your account on the PTSA webpage using your email address and PTSA password. If you have forgotten your password, click the “Forgot your password?” link. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one (you do not need to join the PTSA to do so).
  3. You will see all your students listed. Click on one of them to go to their reading log.
  4. If you do not see your student listed once logged into your PTSA account, click "My Account" on the top left of the side menu bar. Here you will see a place to add a new student with a grade and teacher name.
  5. Enter their minutes and press Save. These minutes are automatically considered to be “approved”.
  6. Weekly reading minutes must be entered by Sunday at 10 PM each week to count! If you miss this deadline, your child’s minutes may be counted the following week.
